此曲最重要的一句歌詞為”I want to be in that number.”，意為「我渴望要在那個數目裡面」。而是在什麼樣的情況下希望在那個數目裡面呢？
1.When the saints go marching up in to glory. 當選民朝著那榮耀而去時。馬太福音24: 31「他要差遣使者，用號筒的大聲，將他的選民從四方，從天這邊到天那邊，都招聚了來。」當耶穌再來的時候，祂要差遣天使用號角將祂的選民召聚起來同往那榮耀。
2.When the revelation comes. 當那個新世代顯明出來的時候。馬太福音24: 30a「那時，人子的兆頭要顯在天上，地上的萬族都要哀哭。」
3.When the new world is revealed.在耶穌上十字架之前，門徒認為當耶穌再來的時候，那將是一個新世代，也就是啟示錄21章所提及之新天新地。然而那個世代是將來才會來臨嗎？不，正如一首詩歌所言：耶穌同在，就是天堂，這個天堂是在地上，而非天上，神的國在心裡。
4.When they gather round the throne.當聖徒的靈魂聚集在主的寶座前。
5.When they crown him King of Kings.啟示錄17:14「他們與羔羊爭戰，羔羊必勝過他們，因為羔羊是萬主之主，萬王之王。同著羔羊的，就是蒙召、被選、有忠心的，也必得勝。」”蒙召、被選、有忠心的”指的就是「選民」，耶穌得勝的時候，跟隨耶穌的也必得勝。
6.When the sun no more will shine.馬太福音24: 29「那些日子的災難一過去，‘日頭就變黑了，月亮也不放光，眾星要從天上墜落，天勢都要震動。’」當日頭不再發光，就是災難臨到的時候。
7.When the moon has turned to blood.使徒行傳2: 16「神說：在末後的日子，我要將我的靈澆灌凡有血氣的。你們的兒女要說預言；你們的少年人要見異象；老年人要做異夢。在那些日子，我要將我的靈澆灌我的僕人和使女，他們就要說預言。在天上我要顯出奇事；在地下我要顯出神蹟，有血，有火，有煙霧。日頭要變為黑暗，月亮要變為血；這都在主大而明顯的日子未到以前。到那時候，凡求告主名的，就必得救。’」以上經文是五旬節彼得引用距當時七百多年前先知約珥說的一段話，所說的正是災難的起頭。雖然地上有災難，但在天上有預備，因此”I want to be in that number.”表達了在災難來臨的時候，選民渴望身在前往榮耀之路的盼望。
8.When the music going round and around.啟示錄7: 9~12「此後，我觀看見有許多的人，沒有人能數過來，是從各國各族各民各方來的，站在寶座和羔羊面前，身穿白衣、手拿棕樹枝，大聲喊著說：“願救恩歸與坐在寶座上我們的上帝、也歸與羔羊。”。 眾天使都站在寶座和眾長老並四活物的周圍，在寶座前，面伏於地敬拜神，說：“阿們！頌讚、榮耀、智慧、感謝、尊貴、權柄、大力都歸與我們的神，直到永永遠遠。阿們！”」眾天使及眾人以詩歌音樂頌讚主的榮耀。

10. on that Hallelujah day.啟示錄19: 1, 6「此後，我聽見好像群眾在天上大聲說：“哈利路亞（註：就是“要讚美耶和華”的意思）！救恩、榮耀、權能都屬乎我們的神！……我聽見好像群眾的聲音，眾水的聲音，大雷的聲音，說：“哈利路亞！因為主我們的神，全能者作王了。」在那讚美耶和華的日子，當基督做王了，跟隨基督者也做王了。
上帝在天上為我們預備了豐盛的恩典，但地上卻存在了許多苦難，因此在上述十種情形時，選民發出”I want to be in that number.”的心聲，希望能進到主的榮耀中。彼得說當聖靈澆灌我們就是先知預言應驗的時候，而這是一段時期Period。馬太福音12: 28~29「我若靠著神的靈趕鬼，這就是神的國臨到你們了。人怎能進壯士家裡，搶奪他的家具呢？除非先捆住那壯士，才可以搶奪他的家財。」神的國始於耶穌開始行神蹟，從那刻起，神的國就在人心裡，而神的寶座在天上，因此，天上、人間是相通的，使徒行傳第二章指出這段時期已經臨到我們，靠著耶穌，我們可以得勝一切。
另一首詩歌「This little babe」的歌詞”This little babe so few days old is come to raffle satin’s fold.”，”raffle”意為搶奪，耶穌來到這世上，是為了搶奪撒旦羊圈的羊，也就是馬太福音中壯士財產的比喻，耶穌是以犧牲生命的愛而非武力，將人從撒旦的權下搶奪至神的國度，而這些被搶奪到神國度的人就是”選民”，這些選民每日所期待的就是 ”I want to be in that number.”
